TREND ALERT! ... BAR CART COMEBACK

Drinks trollies, bar carts, tea trollies ... are a few names they are known by. Mid-century glamour goes glitzy with the latest array of metallic tones to spritz up any home. My first coveted cart was christened in my early twenties when I resurrected a little antique oak number that had been tossed out by a neighbour, of which I proudly adorned with a collection of op shop crystal decanters. I think some were filled with cold tea to give it "the look". Despite its humble abode within the corner of a student flat, it nonetheless proudly stood up to providing a plethora of quality margaritas for many themed memory making cocktail parties. Thank goodness those were the days of film in the cameras and photos are now lost! Or maybe I still have one.

Today the bar carts are a little more sophisticated with a selection of stunning shapes. Entertaining at home has become more fun and fuss free enabling you to offer guests a choice of refreshment with ease. Most wagons are on wheels and can be trained to heel! Mandatories to provide the perfect mixer include; an ice bucket and tongs, a cocktail shaker, strainer and measurer, straws, drink stirrers and napkins (for any slight spillage). Having all the bar essentials in one place means you spend less time going back and forth to the kitchen and more time mixing with your guests as you dispense drinks.

Other cherished collectables your cart can carry may range from photo frames, vases, books, planters and my all-time favourite … candles! Makes a versatile bedside table for the guest room when needed. Another idea is to create the same look with a beautiful glass tray on a credenza or side table with your collection of delectable drinks – which can be inexpensive and able to be carried to the dinner table. Finally, you can give a sophisticated seasonal summer look with napkins and fresh flowers to flaunt outside to the clan and compliment your kiwi BBQ!
